Tana Pistorius is a professor of Intellectual Property Law of the Department of Mercantile Law, University of South Africa, in Pretoria, South Africa. She holds the degrees BA, LLB, LLM and LLD. She teaches intellectual property law and legal aspects of e-commerce. She is an on-line tutor for the WIPO World-wide Academy’s course on IP and e-commerce. She is a research fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and a UNCITRAL expert consultant. She is an attorney and a notary. She was a member of the research team that drafted the South African Electronic Communications and Transactions Act of 2002 and the lead consultant of the team responsible for the Namibian Electronic Transactions and Information Systems Bill, 2005. She is a senior adjudicator of the SAIIPL Alternate Dispute Resolution panel for the .za domain-name system. Her research interests include intellectual property law and electronic commerce and she has a special interest in developing-country issues. She is a member of the International Association for the Advancement of Teaching and Research in Intellectual Property (ATRIPS); the South African Institute for Intellectual Property Law (SAIIPL); International Association of IT Lawyers (IAITL); International Trademark Association (INATA); the South African association of Law Teachers (SALT) and ISG Legal SIG. She has presented numerous papers at national and international conferences and has published widely.
