IP Justice International Cyberlaw Clinic

The IP Justice International Cyberlaw Clinic is a network of cyber-savvy law schools from different continents working together to promote the global public interest in Internet law and intellectual property rights policy.

Drawing from a diversity of perspectives and legal traditions, the International Cyberlaw Clinic is a truly unique project where law students from around the world receive hands-on experience negotiating with other stakeholders and advocating for the public interest in an international legal or Internet governance institution.

The first project for the law students in the International Cyberlaw Clinic was to represent the Non-Commercial Users Constituency (NCUC) in policy development at the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). NCUC is the only constituency (out of six at ICANN) that does not represent a particular industry segment in Internet policy development. NCUC’s policy goals include protection of civil liberties and the promotion of innovation and competition in the online arena. The Cyberlaw Clinic officially launched at ICANN’s 30th public meeting of its board in Los Angeles (29 October - 2 November 2007).

Other students participating in the International Cyberlaw Clinic in 2008 will engage in global policy discussions at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the UN Internet Governance Forum (IGF), or regarding the WTO TRIPS Agreement.
