Petition to Delete the IP Chapter of the FTAA Agreement

IP Justice has sponsored a Western-Hemisphere-wide online petition calling for the deletion of the entire chapter on intellectual property rights in the FTAA Treaty. The petition is addressed to the Trade Ministers of the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) Treaty.

The petition is open for signatures from citizens throughout the Western Hemisphere through the end of 2004, the conclusion of the FTAA Treaty negotiation process.

Doctors Without Borders / Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) has its own online petition calling upon FTAA countries to exclude intellectual property right provisions from the FTAA Agreement altogether. MSF cites concern for public health stemming from the IP chapter’s excessive patent provisions that would restrict access to desperately needed medicines by developing countries. But HURRY, The deadline for signing the MSF petition is November 2003, before the FTAA Ministerial Meeting in Miami.
